Please be aware that in an effort to limit potential exposure and community spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus), the City of Larkspur has been advised by the Marin County Health to close all city facilities to the public, effective March 16, 2020, until further notice.
When contacting the Building Department, please be aware that these unprecedented times have caused our Building Department to shift from an in-person submittal, to a newly established submittal process by email and mail, and payment over the phone.
Building Department Staff are available by phone Monday – Friday, 8 am-5 pm.

Resale Inspections are required for residential properties located in Larkspur and the areas of the Greenbrae neighborhood that are in Larkspur. Click here for a List of City of Larkspur Streets

The Building Department is responsible for enforcing the building, housing, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes of the City and:
- Review all construction plans for compliance with State and Larkspur building codes including structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy efficiency, and flood zone compliance.
- Issue building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical permits.
- Perform inspection and conduct code enforcement to ensure that residential, commercial, and industrial construction are in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
- Conduct resale inspections and issue resale reports in conjunction with Central Marin Fire Department to identify code violations and address minimum life-safety matters prior to the sale or residential property.
Applicable Construction Codes All private construction and construction and construction related activities shall be in conformance with the 2019 California Building, Residential, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy, and Fire codes.
