  1. Libraries of MARINet Presents: Keith Knight

    September 23, 2020, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Watch Live on the Library's Facebook Page

Marin Comics Fest Presents Keith Knight. Marin Comics Fest has gone virtual! Please join us on Wednesday, September 23rd @ 6:00PM for a very special event featuring Keith Knight! Launched in 2017 with the support of Marin County libraries, the Marin Comics Fest celebrates the diverse narrative power of comics art and the illustrators and authors who help create it. KEITH KNIGHT is a rapper, social activist, father and educator. As a multi-award-winning artist, he has brought the funny back to the funny pages with a uniquely personal style that’s a cross between Calvin & Hobbes, MAD, and underground comix. Knight is part of a generation of African-American artists who were raised on hip-hop, and infuse their work with urgency, edge, humor, satire, politics and race. The NAACP recognized him as a 2015 History Maker. Woke, a show based on Keith, debuts on Hulu on September 9th. He’s the creator of three popular comic strips: The Knight Life, (th)ink, and the K Chronicles.

  2. Middle Grade Book Club: This Is Our Pact

    September 24, 2020, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Library's Zoom

The Larkspur Library Middle-Grade Book Club is going virtual! Join us this month to discuss This Is Our Pact by Ryan Andrews. It's the night of the annual Autumn Equinox Festival, when the town gathers to float paper lanterns down the river. Legend has it that after drifting out of sight, they'll soar off to the Milky Way and turn into brilliant stars, but could that actually be true? This year, Ben and his classmates are determined to find out where those lanterns really go, and to ensure success in their mission, they've made a pact with two simple rules: No one turns for home. No one looks back. The plan is to follow the river on their bikes for as long as it takes to learn the truth, but it isn't long before the pact is broken by all except for Ben, and (much to Ben's disappointment) Nathaniel, the one kid who just doesn't seem to fit in. Copies of This Is Our Pact were made possible by the support of the Friends of the Larkspur Library.

  3. Meet the Author: Marinda Freeman

    September 25, 2020, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Library's Zoom

The Larkspur Library is excited to host an author event with local author Marinda Freeman who will be discussing her book The Grief Train. The Grief Train, A healing journey of love, loss and renewal shares the story of Marinda’s husband’s sudden death and her five-year journey through grief to a place of healing. Included are blog entries, her personal history, and how to create altars. There is a gaping hole in our society. We don’t talk about death, dying, grieving and loss. But the reality of death and dying is hitting the baby boomer generation with the deaths of their parents, and of spouses, friends, brothers, sisters and children. Rituals are a way to assist in grieving. With Covid-19 there is more grief and mourning that needs to be acknowledged and honored. Even the rituals of funerals and memorials have had to change with this pandemic. This event is made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library.
