  2. Meet the Author: Derek Dwight Anderson

    February 26, 2021, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Library's Zoom

Join the Larkspur Library to meet local author and educator Derek Dwight Anderson who will be talking about his new book Improbable Voices: The History of the World Since 1450 Seen from Twenty-six Unusual Perspectives. This uniquely told world history interweaves the lives of twenty-six women and men who are not well known with the major political, economic, social, and cultural developments that have shaped the human experience through the course of the last 570 years. Meticulously researched and hailed by scholars, yet purposefully written for a broad audience, this book details the lives of doctors and musicians, aristocrats and artists, businessmen and suffragettes, scientists and generals who made essential but now largely forgotten contributions to places and eras as diverse as Reformation Europe, Mughal India, Tokugawa Japan, colonial Australia, and post-colonial Kenya. This event is made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library.

  3. Intro to Pruning for Beginners with UC Marin Master Gardeners Margaret Chu & Betty Jennings

    February 27, 2021, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This is an introductory class to pruning woody plants. We will cover basic plant biology, the fundamental vocabulary of pruning, the categories of trees, the reasons for pruning, when to prune, the steps in pruning, the basic pruning tools and the fundamental pruning cuts. You will learn how a tree grows and how it will react to pruning. The goal of this workshop is to provide a basic understanding of where, why and how to prune that will enable attendees to maintain healthy and visually pleasing trees. Margaret Chu and Betty Jennings are Marin Master Gardener Pruning Guild Journeyman Pruners. Through the Pruning Guild, they have had two years of extensive lecture and hands-on training from certified aesthetic pruners. With their years of continued Pruning Guild membership, they have further advanced their pruning knowledge and skills as well as their teaching skills. This event is in partnership with the UC Marin Master Gardeners and the Commons Foundation.
